INGEOBRAS, a CEEIARAGON company, develops a disruptive technology for the treatment of water from the agri-food industry called ANAERGY.
INGEOBRAS, an Aragonese SME with more than 15 years of experience in the Water Industry, develops a disruptive technology for wastewater treatment in the Agro-Food Industry that adapts to all types of companies.
The project, funded by the EU H2020 SME Instrument Phase 2 programme, represents a breakthrough for the current challenges faced by the agri-food industry as it is the first time that a modular system has been designed that integrates aerobic, anaerobic and advanced oxidation technology, achieving an extremely efficient, small and innovative technology, capable of adapting to the needs of the client/end user.
ANAERGY was developed in response to the daily problems and challenges faced by the Agro-Food Industry, which includes more than 294,000 companies and employs 4.72 million workers in Europe.
This industry produces wastewater that is difficult to treat due to its high organic matter content and the cost of treating this waste is very high. In addition, the regulatory frameworks set by the European Union are becoming increasingly strict as last November 2020 the European Parliament declared a State of Climate Emergency and there is an urgent need to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030).
To this situation must be added the specific challenges faced by each company in the treatment of its wastewater, due to the characteristics generally inherent to its own business activity such as seasonality problems, dispersed relocation, limited space or very high operating costs due to the intensive use of energy.
It is an Industry with great potential where according to FoodDrinkEurope data 91.1% of the companies are SMEs. For these companies, the treatment of the wastewater generated in their business is a great challenge.
The development of the ANAERGY is created with the aim of obtaining a technology that has the technical and economical feasibility to cover from small projects to big challenges without neglecting detail and full commitment. It is a system made up of modules, which can be easily installed and configured to meet the specific needs of each user. This is why installation and assembly costs are reduced by up to 50% compared to traditional solutions on the market.
With ANAERGY there is no need for additional treatment due to its high contaminant removal rate. In addition, this technology is much more effective as the water treatment time is reduced from days to hours. This reduction in residence time translates into a much smaller plant size, which means that the investment cost is drastically reduced.
In order to make the technology known and demonstrate that the solution works in real environments, INGEOBRAS has developed a fully equipped pilot plant available to its customers.
The technology has already reached a development level of TRL7 and will soon be in the commercial phase.
